Overview
The Senegal Pole and Line Tuna FIP targets skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis), yellowfin (Thunnus albacares) and bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus) in the Atlantic Ocean. The expected unit of certification is skipjack, yellowfin and bigeye tuna fished in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean from pole-and-line vessels based in Dakar, Senegal and selling to Thai Union Europe through SENEMER, Princes Tuna Mauritius and other EU processors.

The Senegal Pole and Line Tuna FIP targets skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis), yellowfin (Thunnus albacares) and bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus) in the Atlantic Ocean.
FIP Objective(s)
- Achieve sustainable stock status’ for tuna species that is consistent with the Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) and management systems strengthened to achieve this.
- To improve the availability of accurate data on catches, retained and especially bycatch by strengthening information systems and training.
- To collaborate with other institutions working on tuna fisheries issues in the country, including working together to improve the management and policy towards sustainable fisheries for example Harvest Control Rules.
- Promote the adoption by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) of management measures that will reduce fishing mortality.
- Strengthen ETP and retained species management strategies and reduce bycatch.
- Improve governance and decision-making process.
- To achieve a certifiable status by 2024. All objectives are by 2024.
